0x0000007B Inaccessible_Boot_Device

My Power went out at home and now I am getting this error message. 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. CHECK FOR VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER. REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARD DRIVES OR HARD DRIVE CONTROLLERS. CHECK YOUR HARD DRIVE TO MAKE SURE IT IS PROPERLY CONFIGURED AND TERMINATED. RUN "CHKDSK /F" TO CHECK FOR HARD DRIVE CORRUPTION, AND THEN RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.

I am using Windows 2000 on a Dell Optiplex GX110.  I have no command prompt ability so I have to turn on/off by the power switch. I have no restore CD's. My own expertise is limited.

Any advice would be appreciated! I am dead in the water!

Thanks Rick

RichardSchuster,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try opening up the system and reseat the cables to the harddrive and then see if the system will boot back up into windows.

Try the following:

1. Boot to safe mode. How? Hold down F8 when you get the DOS screen in the beginning and complete this.

2. Find a W98 startup disk and run scandisk from it. Can help reorganize the HD. Sounds like the OS is having a hard time finding a boot file(boot.ini, ntlder).
