2 RAID Controllers in same box ???

Ordered following system recently:

Dimension XPS Gen2
Win XP Home SP1
Intel P4 3.2Ghz HT 800mhz FSB
2Gb DDR3200 (400mhz) RAM
2 - 120Gb S-ATA HD 7200RPM 8Mb (RAID 1)
128Mb Radeon 9800 Pro Video
SB Audigy2 Sound
CD-RW: 48X/48X/24X; DVD-ROM: 16X
17" 1703FP LCD Monitor
NIC & Modem

Current system I built:

Win XP Home SP1
AMD Athalon XP 2600 (1.9Ghz) CPU
SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra (w/ RAID) mobo
512 DDR2700 DDR Ram
OPTORITE DD0201 DVD/RW
PHILIPS PCRW1208 CD/RW
IOMEGA ZIP 100 (IDE)
1 - Maxtor 6E040L0 40GB ATA100 HD
2 - Maxtor 6Y060L0 60GB ATA133 HD's (RAID 1)
2 - Fujitsu MPF312AT 10GB ATA100 HD's (RAID 1)
64Mb ATI Radeon 7000 AGP 4X Video
AOpen FM56-SM Soft PCI Modem
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC

Use 1 RAID for OS mirror since I had a HD crash (w/o warning, I might add. No bad sectors, No Tink Tink Tink sound when booting, Just a WD POS HD) and can't afford to lose system (again) or pay for data recovery. Use another RAID for DATA disk (also mirror) since cannot afford to lose those 1 & 0's either.

My XPS comes with 2 serial ATA Ports, but since only 1 device per port and ordered RAID HD's this doesn't leave any room for more RAID drives. Want to add PCI RAID card to accomplish this but would like to know if there are any problems installing 2 RAID controllers in same system.

Thanks for any help.

Not sure what to tell you:

I ordered my XPS Gen 2 with a single SATA 120GB drive and was able setup mine for RAID 1, after purchasing another SATA drive and cable.    The XPS Gen 2 has the Intel chip build in thats supports RAID 0 and 1 right on the mother board.     If you ordered your from DELL with RAID 1 installed not sure if they using the existing controller or they install an PCI controller for the RAID.   There has been some discussion about that the 8300 ordered with RAID had a promise SATA controller for that function.

Another PCI controller may work with work just do not konw.   Another issue your going to have is you only have room technically for three 3.5 drives.    You could mount a 4th one in your third 5.25 drive bay.

Good luck with your XPS, been happy with mine so far.   Let me know how Dell setup the RAID, curious if they used the existing mother board controller or used a controller card.

F.Y.I.

Spoke with Tech Support (in India, I assume because of the accent) today & posed the question. He, after checking for about 3 minutes, said that adding a PCI RAID controller card is possible and should work in my system without any problems. Will have to wait & see.

Will keep anone interested informed of the outcome.
