8100 dimension needs dvd/cd upgrade
My 8100 runs XP and currently has a cd writer only. Will current internal dvd/cd writers on the market work if I install one of them?
Also, it has a 1.2 USB port. Would an external 2.0 USB dvd/cd writer work with the 1.2 port?

The Dimension 8100 will accept any standard IDE drive of your choice.
An external USB drive will work but will only function at USB 1.2 speed.
A better choice is an internal IDE drive.

If there's an open PCI slot, you could install a PCI 2.0 card for the external DVD/CD/RW, similar to THIS, the card would you four external high speed USB 2.0 ports.
