Sounds like the hard drive is toast. Go into the BIOS setup (F2 at powerup). If the drive IS listed, then reboot, press F12 and run an extended diagnostic. If it's not, remove and reinstall the drive and check again. If it shows up, test as above. If it does not, it's toast - you'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm or slimmer notebook SATA drive.
