AHCI (RAID) Intel Storage drivers for Inspiron 530 (ICH9)
Anynoe able to tell me where the WinXP drivers for my Inspiron 530 can be found? The BIOS suports AHCI (RAID) but the drivers, previously "known" as download R154092, seem to have vanished.
Where can I get these from? I want them because I cannot hot-plug-and-play my external eSATA drive unless the BIOS is set to RADI/AHCI, and without the drivers, Windows won't boot because my machine is currently configured for IDE.
Thanks,
Paul DS (papadeltasierra)

Hi Paul,
Found these. Is that what you're looking for?

Sometimes I'm so dumb! Dells come with a driver CD and guess what is one min - the AHCI drivers for the Intel ICH9 eSATA interfaces. Doh! So followed the suggestions given elsewhere and all done, although there were a few more reboots required as WinXP explorer/desktop didn't seem to start properly at first. Thanks for your help Osprey4; feeling rather silly having only just thought of this.
Thus far, my external drive is still connected (it used to keep "vanishing") so hopefully this has cured it.
In case anyone else is doing this, this is what I did to install them...
- Create a Win XP restore point, just in case
- Get your Dell drivers CD and on there is an i386 directory beneath which you will find the drivers
- Go to Control Panel, select the ICH9 interfaces (which will show up as ATAPI interfaces)
- Right click, properties, update driver
- DON'T let it find the best match, DON'T let it search the web. Instead explicitly point it to the drivers you have.
- You should get a drop down list, one of which is the ICH9 drivers
- Install this
- Repeat for the other ICH9 ATAPI interface
- Exit back to desktop and reboot
- Catch the BIOS whist rebooting (F2) and change drive mode from ATAPI to RAID
- Fingers crossed it will all boot. I had to reboot a couple of times because the desktop would not restart after a login (although the task manager was available) Might be unrelated.

Sure looks like the stuff. Will report back as soon as I've got a moment to install them.
Thanks,

Bother. Finally got around to this and they won't install. My suspicion is that this is the RAID manager software and not the AHCI drivers. Because I've not yet found and installed the drivers, the RAID manager software won't even install.
Actually I probably don't need the RAID manager software. All I want is the AHCI drivers so that I can mount/unmount an external eSATA drive. This eSATA drive keeps "vanishing" from my PC, I suspect because it's expecting AHCI function and not finding it.
So, more looking to do :-(.

One download refers to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver For Vista (R154092.exe). There is also a Intel Matrix Storage Manager For Vista (R154079.exe).
Look around and see if one of these is what you need.
