Array / Raid0(Stripe) *failed* / Bootable : no

Hi,

I had this problem today. After a blue screen on which I think I saw "crash disk" (but not too sure) I now have the report when I try to boot my PC :

RAID VOLUMES :

ID..Name....Level..........Strip....Size............Status.......Bootable
0 Array RAID0(stripe) 128KB 465.7GB ***Failed*** No

Physical disks :
Port 0 says at end of line : Member disk(0)
and port 1 says : Non-Raid Disk
(both are in green)

PC is a Dell Dimension 9200 and both drives model are ST3250820AS.

In setup menu :

Boot sequence #2 Onboard SATA hard drive (not present)

I ran the DELL CD and all kinds of tests on the drives and everything was : check/ok/green.

I ran the Vista CD and tried the startup repair, it said it would last a few minutes, and was almost an hour before I got this report :

Problem event name : startuprepairV2
problem signature #01 : External Media
problem signature #02 : 6.0.6000.16386.0.0.0.0
problem signature #03 : 5
problem signature #04 : 65537
problem signature #05 : Unknown
problem signature #06 : CorruptMbr
problem signature #07 : 0
problem signature #08 : 1
problem signature #09 : FixMbr
problem signature #10 : 1168
System version : 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Regional parameter id : 1036

Also on the boot menu there was a choice to do a diagnosis, and both drives said "pass" (means ok I guess..)

I would like to know what operation I should/could do so as to avoid loosing any data/files on my hard-drives.

Thanks a lot !

F.

Since Raid 0 arrays are so fragile, I would invest in this software to try to repair the damaged data (MBR) on the drive, use #4 after booting from the Spinrite CD. It will run a very long time on that size partition, but is worth the wait. It is about 1 hour per 9 gig.

Not free sorry, but I have saved many a hard drive from disaster with it.

You should never store critical data on a Raid 0 array.
