BIOS doesn't recognise CD/RW

Have Dimension 2300 with BIOS AO2 Samsung DVD SD 616F installed as secondary master (HDD at primary of course)

Trying to install a LG 52/24/52 CD/RW but can't get BIOS to recognise it even though it has power (LED light and door opens OK )

Have tried following solutions with no success.

1) Attach CD/RW as seconday master only (bypassing the DVD all together) with same cable and power as DVD - BIOS didn't recognise it.

2) Reattached all cables and configured jumpers on both devices as cable select first and then Master on DVD and Slave on CD/RW.

3) Cleared NVRAM (I think this was successful) by changing CMOS jumper to clear, rebooting (it just hung)and then changing back, going into BIOS settings Advanced > Reset configuration data.

Any other thoughts would be very welcomed

P.S. How do you get the front cover off without resorting to using a hammer! The two middle clips are really difficult to get to.

Hi sunline,

Enter the BIOS and verify that the Secondary IDE channel is set on Auto and that both Drive 0 & Drive 1 are on, Dell defaults Drvie 1 to off I believe.

As for the case, not been in a 2300, all I can offer is the Dell Specification pages for opening the case, Click on the CD/RW link in my post, scroll to Section 4, drop down to the Dell Specification Pages and follow the link for your system.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
