Hi Helpmem8,

Yes, you can physically install a blu ray drive but in order to play blu ray movies, your video card and monitor must meet certain minimum requirements. Go here for more information.

I tested my set up with Cyberlink and in basic check my specs passed on everything except Blu-ray drive and software player, so it would seem that my computer is compatible. All I need is a drive and playback software. It mentions Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 for special feature playback and Profile 2.0 for BD-Live. I'm looking at the LiteOn IHOS04, but would I be able to view disc special features and connect to BD-LIve with this player, do you know if this drive meets these requirements of profile 1.1 and 2.0, I can't find any info this, but if it does then the LiteOn is the choice. Thanks.  www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC

Good. I think you should by able to run a BD drive on your system.

My suggestion is NOT to buy a "bare drive". Because you're going to need the software, which in many cases is more than the drive. Buy a drive that includes software. You will also need an SATA data cable. There should be a spare power connector in your case, but not a spare data cable.

This is the link to the Drive I meant to say, which includes software, it's the LiteOn  IHOS104: www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=ox_sc_act_title_1

Thanks. Yep there is a spare power connector and I will order a SATA data cable. Does the 'bare' you mention mean 'no cables', because the 'LiteOn IHOS04' at Amazon.UK includes the new 'CyberLink TrueTheater software package'? Is this the kind of software you mean? If it is then I should be okay?

I have a Dell Dimension E510 desktop from circa 2006. I replaced the internal DVD-ROM with a Blu-ray player made by LG. It was just a bare bones internal drive so it did not come with any software. My E510 has a Corsair CX430M power supply. I was able to find a suitable SATA cable to connect the drive. The installation was very easy. Just slide out the DVD-ROM and insert the Blu-ray. Worked out of the box. I downloaded and installed the free Leawo Blu-ray player, which works beautifully. I have a Dell 2217H 22" monitor and a nVidia GeForce GT 730 video card so my connection is via HDMI. The video quality is super. Couldn't be happier with it.
