Bootable DVD doesn't work

This may be off-topic, but maybe someone out there can help.  I sent the following message to Dell Support, but the response did not address the problem.  Any suggestions will be appreciated!!!

Dell Dimension C521
Operating System: Windows XP
OS Version: Home Edition

Request Description:
I am trying to boot from a bootable DVD with a "Ghost" Hardware Independent Image to install the XP Pro OS and some user applications. I select F12 at startup, it goes to the DVD drive, but I get a message that says
"DVD-ROM device driver, Rev 1.2 OEMCD001
No drives found, aborting installation".
then it goes to the A: drive, which is the next bootable device, and says
"A:\>mscdex.exe /D: OEMCD001 /L:Q
No valid CDROM device drivers selected"

I have tried to find a DVD driver to download and boot from the A: drive (and then hopefully go to the DVD drive to load the image), but I do not find a driver for the TS-H493A/DEWH drive under downloads. What advice can you give me? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Phil,

Your drive "should" use the standard generic drivers for all optical drives
I have noticed tha many of REgulars recommend this link for a good bootdisk:
http://www.bootdisk.com/.
Also just to cover as much as possible, many times the system can only boot from the Master drive, which if you have not changed anything, with Dell it is the drive setting in the Top bay.

Best Regards!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
