CD/DVD problems after Windows 7 upgrade

Hello,

I have a Dell Studio 540 with a DVD-RW Drive:HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N ATA Device. I was running Windows Vista home premium and had no problems with my optical drive. Before upgrading my operating system to Windows 7, I check the dell web page and downloaded the drivers for my PC, for my optical drive (GSA-H73N_FW_C109.zip). After the upgrade and my new drivers, my drive no longer reads dual layer DVDs, video or data. It will read single layer DVDs, data and video.

When I load a dual layer DVD in the tray, nearly everything stops. The DVD player may start
to play the DVD but it takes minutes to play a few seconds of the movie. The windows explorer never lists the contents of the DVD. If I run the
troubleshooting aid in the control panel it waits until I eject the DVD then doesn’t find any problem.

I can read CDs but I can no longer burn one. When I try to burn a CD I get and error:

Sense:
04  ASC: 09  ASCQ: 00 (Command 35)

-------------------------------------------------------

Px.dll:
4.4.48.500

PxAFS.DLL:
4.4.48.500

pxdrv.dll:
1.2.30.0

PxMas.dll:
4.4.48.500

PxSFS.DLL:
4.4.48.500

PxWave.dll:
4.4.48.500

pxwma.dll:
1.0.0.3

I can burn a data dvd (yepee).

I did run the diagnostic test on my pc. It failed the OPU test.

I used the optical drive just days before the upgrade and now it doesn't work. I don't think it could be a hardware problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

Please call Tech support with OPU TEST FAILED with supporting error codes, they would help you, I had a similar problem with my Studio.

There are NO drivers for CD/DVD drives except the built in Windows drivers.

What you download was a firmware update for the drive and that has apparently caused your problems.

Try reinstalling the update, following the Dell install instructions exactly.  If that doesn't help, you can try an older version.

The previous version can be accessed  HERE

If either reinstalling or the old version does not fix it, you are looking at replacing the optical drive.  Firmware updates, although usually not a problem, can in a few cases cause the drive to either not function completely or partially.

Since you are running Windows 7, it will automatically finds the driver available for you to download and install.

I'll state again. There are no drivers except the default built in Windows drivers for any CD/DVD drive.
