CD Drive keeps checking for a Disc every 5 minutes!
This problem has been bugging me for quite a while now. Occasionally, my Cd drive will check for a disc, even though there is no disc in the tray. It checks for about 10 seconds and does nothing after that. While I am playing music it is most noticable as the music will pause briefly for the cd to check, and then continue after it is done. While it is checking, a CD icon will come up on the mouse pointer and remind me that the drive is doing its thing... like I said, frustrating!
I remember someone posting a similar problem a few months ago but I cannot find the message any more. I hope I've described the problem accurately... Any help will be appreciated.

Check this first. Look at your drive properties in My Computer and see if there is a DLA tab. If there is, disable DLA.
Post back if that does not help, or if you are using DLA and do not care to disable it. Since you haven't provided any details, it's impossible to tell what might be happening.

I've cleared that list many times in the past and continue to do so. However, that seems to have no effect on the drive.
Has anyone else experienced a problem similar to this?

Not since the Truman administration.
I'll look around for ideas.
