CD-ROM can't read burnt data CDs
I burnt the backup of my data into a Memorex CD-R using CDRW of my Dim. 2400. I can read them using CDRW, but when I insert the CDs into CD-ROM drive, it can't read anything from it. It thinks there's no CD in Drive D: (my CD-ROM drive).
I tried it with 3 blank CD-Rs that I just purchased from Best Buy - to no avail :-(.
Is there anything I may be doing wrong? I used both "Sonic RecordNow" as well as tried drag-drop methods with the same results.
P.S. It's my first time experimenting with CD-Rs.

Hi sherzodR:
Since this is your first try, I suspect that you are not closing your CD-Rs. I am not familiar with your particular application, but if you look up "closing" in your documentation you will see what I mean.
A ROM drive will not read an open CD-R (either packet-writing or session-writing). The disc has to be closed for a CD-ROM drive to read it.
A RW drive will read both closed and open CD-Rs.

Thanks Nick for the information. I wish I heard from you earlier, since I had to figure this out the hard way.
I was using Sonic RecorNow that came with Dim 2400, and I randomly played with all of its options/settings to get this thing working (wasted about dozen CD-Rs). Got this working once I set the "record type" to something like "Record and Close".
Thanks a bunch for useful information

I think I have a similar problem but I'm not sure how to correct it. I recently tried to save scanned photos onto a CD-R. I am able to read the resuling CD if its in the CD burner (my E drive) but when I place the disc in my D drive (for playing CDs) the computer reads the drive as blank.
I formatted the CD using the Roxio software but I didn't see a reference to a "close" command as you mention in your e-mails.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Can you help?
Thanks
George

You really don't want to be risking your pictures to packet writing in the first place. It is frail and prone to sudden failure.
Write a Finalized Data CD with something like EasyCD to a CD-R.
Even if you only have 10mb on each CD they will be rock solid and only cost you 20 cents.
Whereas if you nearly fill one packet written CD and it goes unreadable, what have you got there?
