CD-RW/DVD freezing up computer

Hi guys, I have a latitude c610 that came with a 24x cd-rom module p/n 5044D A02. This cd rom works fine. I just purchased used from ebay a 6x cd-rw/dvd module p/n 7D655-A00, I was told it would work in my laptop, but if I insatll the module the computer wont boot up, if I wait until I am in windows than Install module it freezes up the computer. Is this drive incompatible, defective or am I doing something wrong? It came with no software or instructions. Please Help,, Randy
