CD-RW audio warble/flutter

I opened my case to vacuum up dust, I tried to be vary careful no to directly touch components. I did touch the fan grill and the case itself, the vacuum tube is plastic by the way.

After this my problem occured. When I play CDs in my CD-RW drive I get a constant warble/flutter/breakup sound.

Thinking this was  dust on the lens I used a lens cleaing cd to no avail.

I was listening to an mp3 once and used the CD-RW drive to read a data CD causing  the mp3 audio to have the same warble.

So it seems simply accessing information on disks on that drive might cause it.

I have a dvd drive and stuff plays fine from that, and mp3s as well

My system specs:

Dimension 8250 Series, Intel Pentium 4
512MB PC1066 RDRAM
WinXP
SoundBlaster Live! with 5.1 Support
48x/24x/48x CD-RW Drive

2 Intern

Hi StoneMonkey,

Even though you were careful you still may have bumped a cable.
I would suggest you re-seat the IDE cable from the motherboard to the back of each drive, then post back.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

I unseated and re-seated all the IDE cables and made sure they were completely secure. However I still have the same audio distortion.

Please help me out.

Ok so I fixed my problems using Predators suggestion of reffering to Section 20, article 3 of his site. I also just burned some music on to a CD-R and it worked.
