Hi Sri Ram,

A couple of standard steps; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3.
Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling the burning software you are using? Also, check for a possible firmware update for your drive.

Best Regards

Hi Jeff,
I tried the steps that you have listed. I have been looking at this forum and your CD-RW link. I don't think it is the software too, it just doesn't recognize copied CDs in explorer too. I tried uninstalling the IDE COntroller and rebooting the system. I also removed the CD-RW device in device manager and restarted the machine. In explorer when I press the D:\, it says Please insert disc even theough there is one. When I used to have Windows 98, it used work fine, but when I upgraded to Windows 2000, the problem must have started.

I don't know if there would be any setting in the drive.

If nothing works then I think I should just get another dirve and see if I have the same problem.

Thanks for you input and any additional suggestions would help.

Thanks,
Sri Ram

Hi Sri Ram,

Many of the burning programs that worked with Windows 98, did not with Windows 2000. Some may have had updates or patchs, others required updating to the next version.

Best Regards!

I have the same problem as discussed below...last year I made a music CD and it worked.  But with my new machine (to be purchased soon) not having a floppy drive I have to replace the floppies with rewritable CD....I bought a package of Memorex DVD-RW discs and using my Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 (Basic) I find that the program tells me to insert a disc and then when I push 'record'...it says that the media I've inserted (2x-4.7gb-120min) is not recognizable! I called Dell Tech Support and the nice man from India wanted to sell me a $200 answer for a year's supply of troubleshooting for my Roxio program.  Roxio in the meantime will not help with a program that was installed by Dell...!  Is there a way to make my XPHome unit recognize the cd's?
