CD-RW doesn't recognize CD-R or CD-RW media
Hi,
I have an XPS R400 machine. I currently have Windows 2000 on the machine. My CD-RW will not recognize any CD-R discs. It only recognizes original discs from manufacturers(like from Microsoft, original software CDs etc). It will not recognize any audio CDs created by another CD-RW drive. I didn't have this issue earlier. I also cannot burn any discs, as it cannot recognize the CD-R media after inserting an empty disc. It says to Insert a disc, even though I insert a disc into the drive.
Any help or does anyone have a similar issue.
Thanks,
Sri Ram

Hi Sri Ram,
A couple of standard steps; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3.
Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling the burning software you are using? Also, check for a possible firmware update for your drive.
Best Regards

Hi Sri Ram,
Many of the burning programs that worked with Windows 98, did not with Windows 2000. Some may have had updates or patchs, others required updating to the next version.
Best Regards!
