CD Rom Reads But Does Not Write or Recognizes Blank CD's

Hello everyone !  I hope someone can help me figure out how to solve my problem, I have a Dimension 2350 Dell Computer, Recently I had to reinstall my operating system from scratch, I followed the instructions on how to partition and format the hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, which I found in the microsoft support website.  I was able to do this sucessfully and now my pc is like new again, except for one thing, my CD Rom is not recognizing blank CD's.  When I try to write to the CD or just open the D: drive with a blank CD in it, I receive this message :
Please insert a disk into drive D:   can someone advice me on how i can fix this problem ..
The Cd rom is a Samsung Sc-148c 48x

:smileyvery-happy:  I would like to thank you for clarifying that for me !  And all this time I could've sworn that could be done, No wonder I had so much trouble saving to the CD.... :smileytongue:  What happen was that I had a CD Burner in my other computer; Compaq Presario, and I was so used to just saving to a CD that I completely relied on it to just do so with this PC, not realizing at that moment the difference.  I just acquired this PC from my niece, she had so much programs and junk files in it that is why I did a clean reinstallment of Windows Xp.

Ok. Thanks again.

Need you to clarify something. You say your cd-rom does not recognize blank CD's? You have a regular CD-Rom drive that does not burn CD's? If you try to read only a blank CD then there is nothing on the cd to read. To burn a cd you must have a CD-R/W drive. Maybe you do but please be more specific.

No, if you don't have a burner you cannot save to a cd with a reader only drive. A cd-rom is a read only drive. A burner is a read and a write drive. Your only option is to save the file to a floppy disk.

Ok. My Cd Rom is not a CD Burner. What I mean is that if I want to save a file or photo to a blank disk in the CD Rom then I receive the message : Please Insert a Disk to Drive D:, when there is a CD inserted.

I should be able to save files to a CD disk even if my CD Rom is not a burner. right??

Well you are quite welcome! Happens to the best of us! If you like the computer you can always add a burner. They are nice! Good luck.
