CD backup---how to?

I've just purchased a Dimension 4600 with no Zip drive.  I've heard that the XP system will backup to a CD, but can't figure out how to do so.

Need to backup both text files and Quicken....can anyone help?

The Windows XP backup program will not write to CD's.

However, you can create "data" CD-R's with your CD burning program of the backup data.  You must first save the files to the hard drive and then you create a data CD-R (or RW) by copying or burning those files to a CD.  I do not personally recommend RW discs unless you have the data backed up somewhere else, do not have your "only copy" of any data on an RW disc.

You can also use the built in Windows XP CD burning capabilites and "drag and drop" (copy) files to a blank, unformatted CD with the Windows Explorer.

Here is a link to info about backing up Quicken to a CD.

What you have to do is backup to your hard drive and copy/burn over to your CD, a couple of extra steps.  Sounds like Intuit is working on a fix, but for now you have to do that extra step.  My old computer I was able to backup right to the CD.  Also, when you do backup your Quicken data file, you will see a file "Q3.dir" placed on your desktop.  I contacted Intuit on this issue also and was told that they are aware of that issue and that it was safe to delete that file..
