CD copier could not detect any supported CD-Recorders

O/S Windows ME

Dimension 4100

Can anyone tell me if Roxio Easy CD Creator 4.02 or 4.05 will work with any CD-RW drive?  Roxio support website gives listing as to which software will work with various drives.  I'm getting different information elsewhere.  Software works independent of the drive and will work with any drive, etc.  If the software will work with any drive, why would Roxio list each drive by manufacter and the first version of their software that will work with it?

Thanks

karibari,

Adaptec Easy CD Creator Version 4 is very old software as Osprey4 states.
It may not be recognizing your newer drive.  Many updates to Easy CD
Creator 4 and 5 were for the purpose of recognizing newer drives.
Both of these versions are no longer suppported by ROXIO.

Beginning with Version 6, the software began to dynamically recognize
installed drives.  That is, it eliminated the need for updates solely for
the purpose of recognizing newer drives.  Version 7 is the latest level of
ROXIO software.

It looks like you may need to update your burning software.  Version 6 is
still around at a very good price if you can find it.  Version 7 is the
currect ROXIO offering.

No, each program that uses a CD recording device must be enabled to recognize that device. So not every version works with every burner.

Version 4 of "Easy CD Creator" is rather old, anyway. You should think about upgrading or moving to another program. Nero and NTI CD Maker are both well regarded and worth looking into.

Check the Roxio site, as they have some updates for recorder support for many versions of their software.  If their list of supported recorders, for a certain version of Easy CD Creator does not list your specific burner, it may burn to it but not support all the features (such as the Burn Proof Technology, which may need a later Roxio version of Easy CD Creator).

Nero or some of the other CD burning programs also have limitations, again depending on the particular version of the software.  I had a copy of another CD burning program that Roxio owned,  and Roxio supported the drive but the other Roxio owned program did not support it (I don't remember what the program was, but NTI seems to ring a bell).

Thanks for the responses.

I've checked at the Roxio website already.  So, I basically knew.  I just wanted to double check myself.  The problem started when Dell replaced the drive and the tech took the software cd that came with it.  He said our software would work.  I've spent 4 months  emailing Dell techs about the error message.  Their response was checked ide cables, remove software and reinstall(had me do it twice), wanted me to reinstall ME software.   Had me jumping hoops.  When I asked the question about software supporting the drive, it was Dell techs(several) who told me that they would work together.   I started asking that they supply the appropriate software since it was warranty work and the tech took the cd, after I found the Roxio website. They won't do that--our software should work with the drive according to them. They won't even respond when I give them the Roxio support information about the drive and software.  At on point , a tech gave me a link to a download that would help solve my problem--gave the impression it would upgrade my software.  IT was a tutorial on burning cd's using EZ CD Creator 5.2.  I guess I wasn't supposed to read the information about it.

They are now saying the drive is failing and will have to be replaced again.  All I wanted was the software that would work with the drive they installed.  I'm concerned with what drive they will install now.  Maybe I being too suspicious.

Anyway---Thanks bunches

If they come and change the drive again, make sure the tech
verifies the drive is detected by the burning software.  If
it is not recognized, request he install the newer software.
And, if that works, request he leave the disk with you.
