Can't boot up the system

this is what comes up when I turn on my computer

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, Restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any ant-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utitities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer

See here

Boot the WinXP CD.

Enter the Recovery Console by pressing 'r' when prompted.

Then from the command prompt run chkdsk C: /f

How to start the Recovery Console

Note: There is a chance that your partition is corrupt beyond repair and all of your data is lost.

If you find that it doesn't repair it and you need to reinstall, make sure you have all the drivers ready. Also if you don't have a good backup of your data and it is worth it to you, I'd suggest getting another drive to reinstall to and then use the old drive as a secondary to copy files from
