Change HDD to Samsung SSD in 15R

Hi,

My original HDD (1Tb) from my Dell 15R died a few weeks ago, so I was thinking about replacing it with a SSD.

I have a good deal on the Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5-inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive.
But I read somewhere that it would not be compatible with my 15R.
Is that true? Are there any risks? Is it going to work fine?

Thank you!

Hi julien.desjardins,

2.5 inche SSD is compatible with the Inspiron 15R system. If the system supports SATA 2 technology then the system will downgrade from SATA 3 speed to SATA 2 speed if SATA 3 SSD is connected.

OK thanks.

What would that SATA change do to the system? slower or something?
How about system compatibility?

Hi Julien,

The 2.5 inch SSD is compatible with the system. However the motherboard works on SATA 2 data operation speed 3Gb/s but SATA 3 data operation speed is 6Gb/s. If the SSD is SATA 3 then it will downgrade to 3Gb/s data operation transfer.
