Code 19

XPS 8700

CD/DVD opens and closes but does not read disks. went into device manager and this is the device status message:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

disk drive worked on setup

Tried updating drivers, "drivers are already up to date"

Tried unstalling and restarting PC

Tried diagnostics through Dell support pages and ePSA

No joy!

Reluctant to restore to default.

I have same problem, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver, it says the latest version of my driver is installed and it still doesn't work. I even tried the registry editor fix that was posted somewhere else. I don't know if these "Solutions" are compounding the issue or not.

Help would be appreciated.

Ive managed to fix it now, apologies for not posting up earlier. Took me a while of searching, but try using this windows fix it link, I found it on microsofts community forum: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us. Hope this works mate, let us know how it goes.
