Compatible DVD formats
I have an Inspiron 2650 with a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2612 drive. What CD formats are compatible with it?

Here's the User's Guide for that drive: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p39643/en/index.htm.

Thanks, but I didn't see any reference in the material to what types of DVDs the player will play. Specifically, I can't seem to get a DVD-RW which I recorded to play.

Yes, there is. It's under Specifications: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p39643/en/spec.htm
When in doubt, try download and run NeroInfoTool - it should also tell you if your drive supports reading DVD-RW media. You can download NeroInfoTool at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html
What have you recorded onto the disc? If the disc is not finalized, try finalizing it. It can also depend on software. For example, I need to use a DVD-VR capable player (such as PowerDVD 6 or 7) to play TV programmes I recorded on unfinalized DVD-RW discs with my DVD recorders, but when the disc is viewed under Explorer, there is no visible file.
