Computer Noises

Switched from HP to Dell 9100 - just yesterday.  Computer has an almost constant low volume "rumbling" noise coming from it!   Is this normal??

I am wanting to send it back but have not yet been able to connect with a "live" support person yet!

Pierantonio.

No, it's not normal, it maybe the hard drive, a fan or even a part that has become dislodged during shipping, you could open the case and check.  But, as this is a new system, you could contact Dell  ASAP.

My new 9100 has the loudest hard drive I've ever heard.  It's a Seagate Barracuda SATA 80 gig.  I have requested a replacement drive but have not received it yet after 9 days.   I suspect your rumbling is the hard drive.  The fan is a constant low drone, that could be your noise, but you would know if it is the hard disk from the activity.

BTW, I tried setting the bios setting to Quiet and that made no difference.  I also tried the fast setting and ended going back to the original Bypass, which was the default setting.  None made a difference.
