Creating a new HDD Partition..

I was wondering if using the Disk Management software in Vista HP to create a new volume (using Shrink) will damage my Dell recovery partition?

I've been playing with Win 7 beta in a Virtual Machine, but I want to try it as a dual boot.  I don't want to damage the Dell recovery/utils partition though.

Update

Wont let you install on USB devices.

Shrink worked just fine & recovery partition options intact.

Most new Dell systems ship with four partitions;  you cannot add one without deleting one of the existing ones and the simplest to dispatch is the recovery partition.

If you really want to run the beta, consider buying a new hard drive - they are very inexpensive.

This one (Dimension 9200) only has 3 partitions C D & a hidden E.

It's a RAID (1) config & already has 2 HDDs in it hence no room for anymore devices in those bays.

I may try installing it on a USB HDD.

Many thanks for your answer
