DELL XPS 2720 MSATA 32GB replacement
Hi there,
I would like to swap the MSATA 32GB hybrid drive for a samsung 840 mSATA 250 GB evo.
I read all topics about the replacement of the mSATA drive, but i couldn't find if DELL is using certified hardware? Could somebody tell me if this is gone work properly in my Dell without troubles?
Regards

First uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery and then install the latest version from here:
http://www.dellbackupandrecovery.com/en-us/Index2.html
Then make a new Recovery USB using the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery:
The Recovery USB made from the latest version will have enhancements over any media created by earlier versions. Specifically it will allow for clean installation on a new (smaller) hard drive than the original which previous versions didn't allow.
In your case you are going for an install on a 1-2 TB conventional HDD with a 32 GB mSATA cache drive with an Intel Smart Response Technology SATA operation setting up the mSATA drive as a cache drive to a direct install on a 256 GB mSATA drive with an AHCI BIOS operation.
The first thing you will need to do is to change the SATA operation, see here:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/ensure-you-have-the-correct-sata-configuration-in-the-bios-setup-for-your-configuration/sata-operation/
Then you will need to replace the SSD, see the Owner's Manual XPS 2720 page 47-48:
http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-27-2720-aio_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
Next you should be able to reinstall Windows by using the Recovery USB, see the instructions here:

It should be fine, plenty of people upgrade to a Crucial or Samsung SSD. There was even a Dell Samsung SSD IdeaStorm session.
