DISC INCOMPATABILITY?
It doesn't matter what disc I insert into my NEC ND3450A, a maxell CD-RW, a Memorex DVD+RW a Hyundai DVD+R the device will not recognize any of them. When I attempt to burn using Sonic Record Now it always requests I insert "a blank or rewritable CD into the drive." If I go to "My Computer" and select the drive in question and then attempt to "explore" or "open", once again is "please insert a disk" no matter what type of disc I have in the drive. My DVD Rom also does the same. What am I doing wrong or what haven't I done?

Hi Mwdcanuck,
I know Dell has a firmware update for your 3450a but since this is happning with both drives; lets try something.
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3 and reload the IDE controller
Best Regards!

Hi Mwd,
You have the dreaded Sonic software, actully Sonic`s Recordnow is not bad, it is the Packet Writing Program DLA that is not liked.
Consider disabling it for now, same CD/RW link, Section 13-0, article 12.
Best Regards!

Hi MWD,
If you are game and do not mind just a tad more tinkering.
Uninstall both drives from Device Manager, then shutdown. Disconnect the IDE cable from both drives, then attach the "end" connection to the NEC. Turn the system back on and disconnect it from the internet, turn off any Anti-virus, Spyware and Firewall, does the drive work now?
If so, start turning the software on and see if one of these have caused the problem.
If the drive does not work and you are still under warranty, contact Dell, reference this thread to the Tech and see if he/she will recommend a replacement.
Best Regards!
