DMA controller

I have an older - Dimension XPS T 450 PC with a 13.6 GB Western Digital hard drive running Win 98SE. I am getting constant message when I run device manager - properties, saying that my direct memory access controler is not working and that there is a problem with the driver. When I try to reinstall the driver it does not work, i I getting a message that the best driver already installed. How can I fix this problem. Couple of guys from tech support in Bangalore did not have a clue.

Thanks

Milan

You can delete the Primary IDE Controller in Device Manager and reboot, Windows should reinstall the driver and allow you to set the DMA.

That will usually correct a bad controller driver.

If that does not fixe it you may have to reinstall the chipset drivers from Dell

The XPS T model lacks any Dell supplied chipset driver and uses the standard drivers that come with Windows 98.

Well then . . let's not install it . . is there a way to extract it from the Win98 disc if the removing trick does not work?

Thanks for the help . . wrs
