DVD/CD-RW drive won't burn/choppy audio

I have had this problem for awhile, on one of my old PC's, Dell Dimension 1100. Basically when I go to burn an audio file (haven't tried dvd or data) it burns about 4 songs out of like 16 or so. I have tried all sorts of drive updates, roxio updates, and different brands of disks. Same story every time. In addition to this when I play a DVD or CD the sound is distorted and choppy. I am sure they are related as I only have the one drive. I did try adjusting the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers for primary and secondary, they are both running in DMA. So I am at a loss, please help?

Hi Molls0234,

You're on the right track by checking DMA mode, but you must look in the right place. There are two fields, "transfer mode", and "current transfer mode".

Transfer mode must be "DMA if available".

Current transfer mode must be "Ultra DMA Mode 2". If this field says PIO, then it's not set correctly.
