DVD/CD playback issues - Skipping issues.

I got my notebook and approximately a month after I began to have issues with the DVD drive.

No matter what disc I put in, CD or DVD, upon trying to play the DVD/CD the playback skips. This has nothing to do with scratches on the discs because I bought a brand new dvd, and tried to play it and the same thing happens. It also is not limited to certain sections of the disc, the skipping occurs all throughout. That lead me to believe that the problem is in the drive.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Look in the Device Manager to make sure the drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode.

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controller.  Right-click the channel the
drive is on and select Properties.  Select the Advanced Settings tab.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I went into the Device Manager and looked under the Primary IDE Channel, and the Secondary IDE Channel and checked the Advanced settings.  The Primary is set to DMA, and the Secondary is set to PIO.  The transfer mode drop down for the secondary IDE channel says DMA if available, however the current transfer mode is PIO mode.  For the Primary IDE channel the Transfer mode drop down says DMA if available, and the current transfer mode says Ultra DMA Mode 5.

Hope that helps.
