DVD-RW power supply.

Hi,

I have a Dell Optiplex SFF 755 desktop and recently bought a DVD-RW for it and I'm having problems connecting it to the power supply. The connection into the back of the DVD-RW is

Now, I've done some research it seems a slim sata conversion cable would fit the input in the photo. However, this lead seems to come with a molex cable, which I don't have anywhere to fit on my motherboard.

There is a loose cable coming from the power supply, a 3-pin cable with a black, orange and red wire coming from it with "P5" written on it. Would it be possible for me to cut the end off this, cut the end off the molex and use the black and red wires to connect the DVD-RW to the power supply, or is that asking for all kinds of trouble? Other photos I've seen shows an additional sata power cable coming from the power supply, but mine doesn't appear to have one.

Thanks in advance.

Many thanks for your fast reply, osprey4.

The DVD-RW drive I have in at the moment says it is a TS-L633 which looks to be slimline. The drive itself fits perfectly on the tray it came with and clicks into place securely, and it looks as though the removable plastic cover on the case is only capable of fitting a slimline drive into it.

Honest to God, this has been more hassle than it's worth, especially for an aged computer.

Hi Daveyboy03,

Please download your user guide from this URL: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-755_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf

The desktop takes a standard 5.25" optical drive. Did you purchase a slim drive?

I'm sorry. Just read your first post and see you have an SFF. I was thinking desktop. DOH!

There should be an existing power connector coming from the PSU. That's the wide one. You might need an SATA data cable. Did you look at the manual? It shows the motherboard connector for the data cable.
