DVD drive(E) won't play DVDs, only CDs
Inspiron 530, Vista. When I right click (OPEN or EXPLORE), it just ejects and says 'please insert a disk'. If I double click, window states 'computer(not responding)'.
I downloaded 'updated driver' from DELL site -- still doesn't work.
Ran DELL quick diagnostic -- states everything is working.
I think it has something to do with software, because it reads CDs.

I assume you had a DVD in the drive, so the results indicate the DVD laser has failed and the drive needs to be replaced.

Hi Trekkieaw,
Please boot to the F12 utility partition and run the Dell diagnostics with a DVD disc in the drive.

Hi Osprey,
Utility Partition -- Test Hardware -- Express Test.
Error message came up, 'error code 0F00:137B. IDE device failed. Blank media or no media is present in optical drive. Test requires media with data(Resource CD, Installation CD).'
