Chris,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Certain Inspiron and Latitude systems use the same chasis.  The drives on these systems will be compatible with the other line of business.  Your system is directly compatible with  the Inspiron 3800 and the Latitude CPT.

The following systems should all be capable of using the same model CD/DVD/CDRW drives:

Inspiron 2500
Inspiron 3700
Inspiron 3800
Inspiron 4000
Inspiron 4100
Inspiron 4150
Inspiron 8000
Inspiron 8100
Inspiron 8200

Latitude L400
Latitude LS
Latitude CP
Latitude CPi
Latitude CPiA
Latitude CPiR
Latitude CPxH
Latitude CPxJ
Latitude CPtS
Latitude CPtC
Latitude CPtV
Latitude C400
Latitude C500
Latitude C510
Latitude C600
Latitude C610
Latitude C800
Latitude C810
Latitude C840
Latitude CS R
Latitude CSx H

I bought a  LG DRN-8080B DVD-ROM thinking it would work. It's thinner with a smaller connection in the rear. Is this drive for a different model chassis? The ad said it fit Latitude c800, and Inspirion 8000. Thanks for any info you might have.

Hello Chris,

I have the same problems as you and wonder what happend afterwards. Did you solve your problem?

I have obtained an external DVD with partno 153YN = DRN-8080B originally intended for Inspirion 5000 and would like to connect it to my Latitude LS but that doesn't work. My LS CD-cable doesn't fit and I need a new cable to do the job.

Do you know if such a cable exists?

Olle

BobT.

Could you confirm if the 8X DVDROm drive I have for my Inspiron 8100 ( Dell LBL P/N 18THT-A00) is compatible with the Latitude CPxJ 650.  If it is, what do I need to do to make it work on the CPxJ?  I suspect it can but I wanted to be sure.  The Zip100 module that works on the Latitude also works in the Inspiron 8100.

Taking the question further: will the 24x CD-ROM drive and 18GB HB bay drive from the Latitude CPxJ work in the Inspiron?

Thanks.

Volute,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
The DVD drive uses the same latch mechanism for both systems, so yes, it should work between both systems. Yes, the 24X CDROM from the Latitude should also work with the I-8100.
The hard drives use a standard design, so they will work with either system.
But, the problem is that the plastics surrounding the HD are different.
The plastics for the Latitude drive seem to be bigger then the plastics for the Inspiron HD.
So, in order to be able to use one HD from one system in another, you may need to swap out the
plastic casing surrounding the HD.

Thank you for the information.  I will try swapping the DVD-ROM and other modules between the Latitude and Inspiron.
