DVD8631 Readability Problems

I can burn video DVD's using Sonic and Studio, and they play on the Dimension 8400, but they won't load on stand alone DVD players.

I have tried -R, +R, +RW media (Sony and Fujifilm) - no luck
I have tried with DLA eneabled and dissabled - no luck
I have tried Dell support - clueless
I have installed the CD21 firmware update - no help
I found discussion about using the Sonic "Make Compatible" command by right clicking the dvd drive, but my shortcut does not have this option.

Is this a hardware or software problem?  What else can I do to troubleshoot this?

Hi Manitou,

You might try reviewing the DVD player guide at
Video Help
an excellent site for DVD video, media, How to`s..., drives, players, etc..

Also consider the Dell update for Sonic`s software in the Downloads link under Product Support tb above.

Best Regards

Thanks, I have looked at the video help site for compatability reports, but will check again.  I will also pursue the Sonic update, but since I have also tried the Pinnacle Studio software (newest version) I didn't think that would be where the problem was.

Do you have any insight on how the DLA software effects dvd burn results?  What about the "make compatible" reference  from my first post?

Hi Manitou,

The DLA you are referring to is Sonic`s Packet Writing program which formats the disc.
Section 13-0 of the CD/RW link in my post has some information on using Sonic. I did a quick search on Google on "Make Compatible" but currently my work PC is not loading the sites, you may wish to try a search yourself.
Sorry, wish I had more to offer,
