If you only have one hard drive in the system then go into the BIOS Setup by pressing the F2 key at boot up.  Then turn Off the option for Primary Drive 1 and the error message will be gone.

If that doesn't do it or the error returns then consider replacing the motherboard battery.  Since the machine was sitting for a while the battery may have failed.  A new 3-Volt, CR2032, coin cell battery can be purchased for around $3 (US) and is available at any Radio Shack, computer stores and most discount stores like Wal-Mart.  You can click here <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> for additional information from your model's Service Manual on how to change the battery.

Thank you for your quick reply.  I turned off the drive 1 like you suggested and now I get the error "Disk read error occured press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart".  I am going to get the battery for the motherboard and give that a try.  I don't know if this matters about the battery but the date and time is correct in the BIOS setup.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have a great day!

Thank you for your prompt reply.  Not the news I wanted to hear but OK.  Is it at all possible to get the info off that drive?

Thanks!

99.9% or higher probability: the hard drive has failed. Replace the drive.

My Dimension 8100 won't boot up but I got an error code ( error: 0E: 0167: BFF77317 ) but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
