Our question is that how to trace the time of Dell hard drives generation manufactured or released to the market ?.
for example, i need to buy a Dell-branded SAS 146GB Disk Drive for Dell Server but i don't know how to see if the Hard disk is now EOL or available to the market ?. Because this is related to the Disk Drive's life time as well as limited warranty period from manufacturer.
There are no "Dell" SAS drives -- the drive is a standard SAS unit. The date of manufacture of the drive is on the label affixed to the drive. As for the warranty, OEM drives that ship with systems carry no manufacturer warranty to the end user - the system warranty is the drive warranty.
There are still plenty of 146/7 G SAS drives available. For example,
Yes, you are right when you said that there was no "Dell" SAS Drive, i mean that there are Dell Branded Disk Drives for Dell Server/Storage with SAS interface type.
I don't know why there are alots of the Disk Drives with Seagate brand used for Dell Server/Storage has no any informations about the date of manufacture on the label with the Drive there.so i could not know exactly the date of manufactured Drives ?.
I also tried this tool but some Seagate disks did not show clearly what is the date code on the Disk ? so that I could not figure out this date code on the Disk. Please advice me for what is form/format of the date code label with Seagate Disk on this case ?.

Hi Scott,
This forum is for questions about disk drives. Your question seems to be related to software, but I'm not even sure I understand the question.

The other way is to look up the ship date on the system by its service tag. The drive will have been made within a few months of that date.
