Difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW, also which i better, a usb dvd burner or internal

What is the difference between DVD+RW and the negative one? I want to use it for movies and backup of my DVDs and also for data. Also, which is better, the internal or external DVD burner, i c there about the same price but is there a loss for using an external burner. thanx in advanced.

The plus or minus (actually dash, but who cares) are different formats and use different media. Since there are so many dual-format burners available, most people just get one and use whatever media are available at the best price. Either will work for movies, audio, or data.

Internal versus external is more complicated. Internal, or iDE, uses a faster bus, so it should be faster and more reliable. Really the only reason to use external would be portability between computers. For just one computer, I would go internal.

Now that the dual-layer models are out, the single layer dual-format drives are getting quite reasonable, even at the faster speeds. However, not all brands are the same for reliability and compatibility. So shop around and look for the better brand names, Plextor, Pioneer, TDK and Sony are all well regarded. Best of luck.
