Digital Copy Protection Error - DVD won't Play???

Hello,
I have an inspiron 6400 with Windows Vista Home Premium, and when I try to play movies in Windows Media Player I get the following error:

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

Any ideas?

I am having similar problems with my Dell e520. I have tried to follow instructions to update driver but am having difficulty actually doing so. Do I need to purchase a new video card or driver?

I am receiving same error msg on my Dell Dimension 8400 running Vista Home Premium. It used to play DVD's fine.  I have a Radeon X800Gt video card and had upgraded the drivers but I can't specifically narrow down when DVD's stopped playing as I very seldom use computer to watch DVD's.  Once I discovered any error, I always try to correct same and have installed preivous versions of ATI Catalyst Control  Center and ATI drivers to no avail. I even went so far at to purchase Roxio DVD Decoder plugin from the WinMedia Version 11 plugin link but that didn't solve the problem, same error msg. I have searched Web, Microsoft KB (one article suggested that when computer goes in sleep mode, this can occur- tried working around that as suggested but no luck) as well as Dell. This is the first time I haven't been able to come up with a solution. Any ideas?

Thanks,

No,
I was on with a Dell tech for a very long time and it eventually got fixed.  THEN IT CAME BACK :(

So I am deciding to give up for now.  I am going to re-install Vista HP when service pack 1 comes out, and hopefully that will fix it.

In the meantime, there is a free player that will play DVDs, it is not fancy, but it works.

It is called VLC media player, and can be found at: http://www.videolan.org/

Thanks,
Let me know if anyone figures this out.

Thanks for Videolan link to a free DVD player that works at least. If I find a solution to WinMedia, will let you know.  MTB

I have exactly the same problem and have been trying to fix it for ages.

What i have found though is that if update or rollback the driver it is fix BUT only until you restart your computer then your back to square one.
