Digital Copy Protection Error - DVD won't Play???

Hello,
I have an inspiron 6400 with Windows Vista Home Premium, and when I try to play movies in Windows Media Player I get the following error:
 
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
 
Any ideas?

did you try to load updated drivers for the dvd drive?

I am having similar problems with my Dell e520. I have tried to follow instructions to update driver but am having difficulty actually doing so. Do I need to purchase a new video card or driver?

I am receiving same error msg on my Dell Dimension 8400 running Vista Home Premium. It used to play DVD's fine.  I have a Radeon X800Gt video card and had upgraded the drivers but I can't specifically narrow down when DVD's stopped playing as I very seldom use computer to watch DVD's.  Once I discovered any error, I always try to correct same and have installed preivous versions of ATI Catalyst Control  Center and ATI drivers to no avail. I even went so far at to purchase Roxio DVD Decoder plugin from the WinMedia Version 11 plugin link but that didn't solve the problem, same error msg. I have searched Web, Microsoft KB (one article suggested that when computer goes in sleep mode, this can occur- tried working around that as suggested but no luck) as well as Dell. This is the first time I haven't been able to come up with a solution. Any ideas?

No,
I was on with a Dell tech for a very long time and it eventually got fixed.  THEN IT CAME BACK :(
 
So I am deciding to give up for now.  I am going to re-install Vista HP when service pack 1 comes out, and hopefully that will fix it.
 
In the meantime, there is a free player that will play DVDs, it is not fancy, but it works.
 
It is called VLC media player, and can be found at: http://www.videolan.org/

Thanks for Videolan link to a free DVD player that works at least. If I find a solution to WinMedia, will let you know.  MTB

I have exactly the same problem and have been trying to fix it for ages.

What i have found though is that if update or rollback the driver it is fix BUT only until you restart your computer then your back to square one.
