Dimension 4100 won't boot from CD or rather from some CDs...!

I've downloaded a demo of Suse Linux recently - an ISO image that I burnt onto a CD. I can boot from this Suse CD on one of my PCs and I've tried it on a friend's Dell laptop ok, but my DImension 4100 will NOT boot from it. It will happily boot from the Dell Win98SE Recovery disk, but not the Suse one. I tried updating my BIOS from A04 to A11 but it makes no difference.

I'm stuck. The PC works with most bootable CDs but not this one. This one CD works on most PCs but not my Dimension. What combination could be causing the problem and how do I fix it?

For info, both my DVD drive and CD-RW are on the secondary IDE (it makes no difference which drive I put the CD in). I wondered if this might be an issue, but don't see why it should be for just one CD. I've tried all different orders of boot set-ups in the BIOS with the ATAPI CD option in 1st and 2nd places. Nothing works! :smileysad:

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.:smileyhappy:

Hi ChiefMac,
Since your PC will boot from other discs and this disc will boot on other PC`s, narrowing this problem down may be difficult.
Verify that the drive does have DMA enabled and that the Secondary Channel is set on "auto". Disconnect the slave drive on the secondary channel and see if it will boot.
Blow the drives out with a can of compressed air, short blasts.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried all of them apart from the air blasts (cos I can't find my can!!) and no joy still. Any other ideas?
