Dimension 4700 DVD Drives

Question

I have a DELL Dimension 4700 that was purchased back in '04 or '05 and need a little bit of help..    The DVD RW drive has a bad vibration problem and will not burn DVD discs..  I have come to the conclusion that I would like to just put in a new DVD DL drive in my machine but I am not sure what type i need...   SATA or IDE?   Belarc Advisor reports my controllers as follows:   Intel(R) 82801FB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2651Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 266FPrimary IDE Channel [Controller] (2x)   Belarc Advisor reports my drives as follows:   _NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A [CD-ROM drive]SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E [CD-ROM drive] WDC WD800JD-75JNA0 [Hard drive] (80.00 GB) -- drive 0   Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated... Your system uses an IDE drive.

So both DVD and hard drives are IDE in my machine? What brand of DVD drive do you suggest?   Thanks Todd

For the Dimension 4700 ..........    Hard drives are SATA. Optical drives are IDE.   A good place to check out DVD drives is www.newegg.com. There are also User opinions there for most drives.

If you are replacing the cable, use the 80; otherwise, use what is there.

This is the DVD Drive im getting.. Do I need a new cable for my 4700?

I think the existing cable should be fine.
