Disable Autorun

Does anyone know how to disable autorun?  If I disable autorun will I still be able to use my DVD-rom and DVD/CD-rw combo.  Or do I have to activate it before use?  I am trying to solve that blinking HD light problem.  Also if I delete Dsentry will it cause my system problems?  I have a Dimension 4600 Pen4.

Thanks,

Jay

I'm not sure how disabling autorun is going to solve a blinking light problem.

If you load a CD (or DVD) into a drive, internally it tries to detect it and the light can blink.  All the auto run does is allow whatever is on the CD to perform some operation.

If you have a "blinking light" issue, please detail that so someone can assist you with the real problem.

The DSentry is an anti-spyware program supplied by Dell and should not be involved with CD I/O issues.

I have seen other post in which Dell customers have a problem with the hard drive light that blinks even when the computer is idle.  Some stated that if you disable autorun and dsentry it would stop the problem.  From what they stated autorun and dsentry check to see if the drives have a disk in them.  This cause the HD to stay acitve.  If this is true what are the possible outcomes by doing this?  Dimesion 4600, P4,512MB, XP home ed.

Thanks,

Jay
