Hi Tech Girl,

Extracting "ripping" the data from a CD will not, or I should say is not suppose to damage a disc.

Best Regards!

You mention that the disk giving you problems is a burned copy of a retail purchased music CD.  DRM could be causing this problem.  Retail CD's are now (almost always, anyway) protected by anti-copy software.

Does this burned copy play correctly in a home CD player or in a car CD player?  Does it play correctly in the CD (or DVD) player in your computer?  Has this burned copy been finalized so that no more writing to the CD can occur?

Just thinking out loud.  I think Predator has a huge edge on this kind of issue as far as knowledge is concerned.  Let's see what he thinks if he replies to further posts.

Hi Tech Girl,

First, my apologies for such a short reply on my part, I was late for an appointment and in too big of a rush.
User97502 covered this very well, it may indeed be a copy protection issue or depending on the original CD, the Sony Rootkit.
If you could possibly address his questions in the second paragraph and also a couple more from me: is the drive running in DMA mode (UDMA-2) and not PIO mode; what is the name/model of the drive in question; is this the only copy you have problems with?

Best Regards

First off, Predator and User 97502 I want to say that I appreciate your replies. I've ripped other CDs since the one in question and had no problems. Therefore, I don't think there could be an issue with the drive. I'm leaning more toward there being a problem with the disc itself. If the CD was scatched I'm guessing that the audio playback I received after ripping it ( the songs cutting out and switching back and forth between songs) was the computer's attempt to read the CD. Again, thanks for the help. I'll let you know if I have any further problems.
