Hi Jksterrett,

It really has nothing to do with the size of the drive. Those are updates you needed anyway. Anyway, glad it worked out.

I disagree... Downloads, windows update and Windows Live worked just fine on my old, smaller drive. Only when I tried to increase it to a 2 TB drive did these functions not work. I contend I didn't "need" these updates until I increased the size of my hard drive. Had I not upgraded my drive size, things would have continued to work just fine and I would never have known. Seems to me it does have something to do with the size of the drive. Folks need to know this so they don't waist time with Dell Support telling them they must needlessly re-install windows. Bad advice from your support team. Everyone needs to know that if you increase your drive size on something other than a new machine, be sure to get the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology and bios update. Short of being clairvoyant or increasing my drive size, how was I supposed to know that I “needed” these updates for a perfectly good working system? I never got a notice like in Windows Update. Dell never sent me a message. Am I supposed to check the Dell Support site once a day, once a week, once a month, once a year.... And when I do, am I supposed to just blindly download all of the displayed drivers, system and BIOS updates listed for my service tag just to make sure I am current? Nope, increasing the size of my drive required the updates, not the way my system was running before increasing the size.

The problems had nothing to do with the size of the drive, I'm quite certain. More likely it was the result of the cloning process. But all's well that ends well!

Good luck with the new hard drive!
