I changed the "Secure boot" option to "Disabled" and then I started the installation.
However, the installation couldn't go through. I had the following alert message "We couldn't find any drivers. To get a storage driver, click load driver.
Then I clicked on Load driver then I had the following message "To install the driver for your drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files and then click ok".
My questions are:
Which driver should I download on Dell Support?
How should I proceed after downloading the driver? I already have download and extract "Chipset_Driver_T98JJ_WN_9.3.0.1021_A01.EXE" on my memory stick but it is not recognized.
Once I was in command prompt, I disconnected the USB key and l the command "list disk" displayed the following message: "There are no disks to show".
Then I ran a hardware diagnostics from F12 menu. I had the following error: Fail PSA V4220 Error 2000:0142. Hard Drive 0 - S/N TEA41C49C9LLGR, Short self test unsuccessful.
Oohh...I bet the files you downloaded were in in a compressed format? I had to extract them using 7-zip to be able to get them to work when I loaded them from the Windows install. I'm quite certain you would have fixed the issue by now, but if anyone else is having this problem maybe try that.
I spent ages looking for a solution the details (only if you are interested) are on my blog. :-)

Hi,
What is the current OS running on Inspiron 14z?
Windows 8 that you're trying to install, Is it a retail copy or a OEM copy?
Thanks

Hi,
The current OS running on Inspiron 14z is a 0EM copy.
A year ago DELL sent me a memory stick containing the OS. I am trying to install the OS for the second time on the same PC.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Lets us not worry about drivers yet, Boot into BIOS, Go to BOOT tab, Change the "Secure boot" option to "Disable". , Then Save and exit.
Try booting from the USB and proceed with the installation.
Check if that helps.
Thanks

Hi,
All you need to do is to clean wipe the hard drive.
Are you able to open command prompt? If yes, here is the step to fix the issue.
Reboot the PC and start the installation, that should work. Else please send me the laptop service tag. a private message.
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
I openned an elevated CMD Window, then I lunched the command "Diskpart".
However, the command "list disk" doesn't show me the internal hard drive. It shows only the USB flash drive that contains the OS.
Many thank for your help!

Hi,
Once you are in command prompt, Disconnect the USB key, Check if it stays on the same screen.
Please check if the HDD is detected in the BIOS.
Also run a hardware diagnostics from F12 menu to check if everything goes fine.
Thanks.

Replace the HDD with a SSD as the HDD has failed and the SSD will give your system a significant performance boost.
Then prepare Windows 8.1 with Update 1 Installation Media:

After you have Installed Windows 8.1 with Update 1, use it to get your free upgrade to Windows 10:
