Drives do not see blank disk (Predator)

Jeff, this is a problem a friend of mine is having, What do you think?

I’m running XP Pro on my pc.

Two nights ago I was trying to put together a slide show using Kodak Easyshare version 4.0. One option was to burn the slide show to a DVD using MyDVD. When I clicked on this it took me to the MyDVD (sonic.com) website to download a trial version. As I was installing there were some messages about a previous version, which I did have from my DVD burner, and that since it was a trial version, some functions may no longer work.

Well, of course the slideshow didn’t come out on DVD as it should have and now my 3 drives, CD/RW, DVD/CDRW combo and DVD RW do not recognize discs when inserted.

When I put a disc in and go to my computer, I click on the drive and it says to insert a disc, when one is in there.

I have done the following:

- System restore back to before the trial software was loaded.

- Checked the device manager – no exclamation points and all drives show up as working properly.

- Searched for new drivers, but all came back that driver in use was best one.

Any suggestions?

Regards,

Stan

Hi Stan,

Lights going off & on at work, PC not working, headed home and now Deb is telling me my niece is coming up with two teenage friends (girls) from highschool to spend the weekend..There goes both PC`s and my hearing .. I have the big PC hooked-up through my stereo system and she`ll rattle the pictures on the wall ..lol

I too would have tried the Restore Feature first. I will do some searching as long as I have the PC. I would suggest you clear the NVRAM and reload the Secondary IDE channel, this should cover the driver issue. You may have to completely remove MyDVD then reinstall it from the Dell disc.
I thought I had the instructions for the uninstall wrote down somewhere.

Take care

Jeff, sounds like your going to have a full weekend.
My friends computer is a non Dell. I think it's an HP.
I'm waiting for a call to get more information.
If you kick up some information, let me know.

Thanks

Stan

Hi Stan,

Girls are watching another scary movie. I could not find as much as I had hoped, one suggestion is to remove the CMOS battery, let it set 5-10 minutes; another is that once you enter the BIOS hitting F10 resets the defaults but I have no way of verifying this; Disconnect all three drive, IDE cable and power cable, re-boot, shutdown, re-connect, turn PC back on.

Best Regards

Finally found it:

Title
Clean Install Instructions for DVDit! / MyDVD

Description
If a normal uninstall / install doesn't seem to solve a fundamental problem

Symptom
Errors when launching the program; or problems installing, such as serial number issues

Solution
Start by Removing MyDVD/DVDit! using the Add/Remove utility in Windows.

THEN

1. Uninstall previous version of DVDit/MyDVD from your machine. Manually delete all the files as follows.

a) Delete the "Sonic Solutions" folder (for DVDit!); If you own MyDVD, only delete the MyDVD folder within the
"Sonic" folder in your C drive's Program Files folder.

b) ******IF and ONLY if you cannot install the software completely or when the installer is looping or freezing
perform this operation:

Delete the following folders, if present, from the "InstallShield
Installation Information" folder found in your Program Files folder:

3b24d221-448e-11d4-a499-0050da6e827c
3b24d251-448e-11d4-a499-0050da6e827c

b8b2858e-77a4-4199-8108-d24befe7ec1d

*******

2). Registry Edit instructions:

a) Select the "Start" menu-->Select "Run"--->Type: regedit. Click Ok

b) Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder (if it doesn't exist, don't worry about it)---> Open the "Software"
folder--->Select the "Sonic Solutions" (for DVDit!) or "Sonic" folder (for MyDVD), right click on it and delete
it.

c) Open the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder---> Open the "Software" folder-->Select the Sonic Solutions" (for
DVDit!) or "Sonic" folder (for MyDVD), right click on it and delete it.

3). Reboot your computer (stops services so registry can be written
correctly)

4). Re-install software

Stan,
I do not have MyDVD so I have no idea if this works...sorry

Saved by another scary movie...

Jeff, as it turns out a fresh reboot and reinstalation of the software, did the trick.
It wasn't as serious as we thought.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Regards,

Stan
