E6400 XFR- Intel RAID setup??

Hi all, I bought a CD/DVD drive SATA adapter to add a second hard drive to my E6400 XFR.  My intent is to use the Matrix Storage Manager to mirror the system drive.  However, when I bring up the Matrix manager, there is no option to create the mirror set.  I can see both hard drives, but there's no option to create the RAID set.

I just upgraded the BIOS to the latest and greatest, and there's no option that I can find to set to RAID mode.  I currently have it set to AHCPI mode.  Anybody know if the chipsed in the E6400 will support this??

Thanks.

Hi Buckyswider,

Do you see the Ctrl i menu during boot to configure RAID?

Since the system doesn't support two drives other than through the bridge, there's no RAID option.

Thanks Osprey, thanks ejn.

To tell you the truth, I forgot all about the CTL-I  menus. BUT, you can only set up a volume that way prior to OS installation.  I was looking for the "retroactive" set up, which I had done several times before on other systems.  (FWIW, this one is XP Pro).

So finally I *did* get it to work with the internal drive and the CD caddy drive.

What I did was:

1- Upgrade BIOS to latest and greatest (not sure if this was necessary, to be honest)

2- (on windows) replace the Intel Matrix Manager with the latest version, now branded as "Intel Rapdi Store".

It still didn't give me the option to create a volume, until I reversed some of the damage I had done earlier:

3- I set the "SATA Operation" back to the default of "IRRT" (Intel Rapid Restore Technology).

Then when I started up the Rapid Store software, it gave me the option to create a mirrored volume from both SATA drives.  The terminology is kinda funny now- I think it's a "continually updated recovery volume".  I tested by pulling the internal hard drive, and the system booted up just fine from the CD port hard drive!

SO, for about a hundred and forty bucks, I've got two SSD drives, the system boots REALLY fast, and I shouldn't have to worry about that stupid Dell "Free Fall Sensor" stuff any more....
