Enclosed sata hdd fails to start error code 10.

Former internal sata hdd, now enclosed to be external fails to start error code 10.  When I plug it in I heard and see windows installing driver but after a while attempt fails. Tried 3 different drives with same results. Drive not seen at all in windows. The drives are Western Digitials.....anybody have some ideas???? I'm running a raid 1 system. Thanks

Osprey,

Just ordered a USB to SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure. Should work. Thanks for your suggestions.

Go to this page, and you should get a pop-over prompting you to try the Fix-it utility. Give that a try.

Osprey4, Thanks, but same results, the fix attempted to install driver for mass storage device but was unsuccessful with same error code 10. The device was present in windows with a yellow exclamation mark. Could it be the enclosure?? I've tried 3 different sata drives using the same enclosure.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the enclosure.

Try the "let me fix it myself" procedure here. This is for XP but the registry keys for Win 7 should be the same.
