Also, both drives recognise CD-ROM content when it is just a CD-ROM disc, i.e. a game install disc. They just wont recognise/find the extra content on enhanced CD single type discs.

What version of WMP are you using? Also did you try using Windows XP restore feature, roll the system back a few days before you lost the ability to view the extra content?
I am searching, but so far not finding much. You could give a couple of the standard steps a try; these will at least give you clean/fresh drivers. Click on the CD/Rw link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3.
