Error Code 2000-0147 (optical drive)
People, please help me to overcome the following problem.
The dvd drive on my laptop (Dell XPS M1530) was damaged. I ordered a new one on eBay (DELL XPS M2010 1530 DVD+-RW DRIVE TEAC DV-W28SLB 0RF681). After it was replaced the BIOS doesn't recognize it, nighter CDs nor DVDs are recognized, although, physically it works properly, i.e. inserts and ejects (when I push the eject button on my laptop) the CD/DVD. When I run the BIOS diagnostic it passed perfectly on everything except the optical drive, and it stated the following error message:
Error Code 0147
Msg: Error Code 2000-0147
Msg: Unit 0: Optical drive BIST -- OPU test faild.
The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support
to help diagnose the problem.
The only operating system that I have on my laptop is Linux-Mandriva Spring 2008 One, so I cannot install anything else.
Please, if anybody knows how the following problem may be overtaken please leave a feedback, I will greatly appreciate the provided help. Thank you very much in advance.

You might want to reread this entire thread.......... Skybird says quite plainly the the error code means that the drive is dead. The soution is to replace the drive.

Hi Abram Veliz,
The error you receive is from your DVD drive, not the hard drive.
In order to use a new hard drive in the system, it is necessary to install Windows on the new drive. If you provide the model of your Dell and your operating system, I can give you a link to the instructions.

Hi Adnan90,
That error code indicates an IDE failure. Do you see the new hard drive in the BIOS?

I called dell support and was told to take the cd/dvd drive out and put it back in. After doing that I ran the diagnostics again and did not get the error message anymore.

Hi Pablo,
If the drive does not appear in the diagnostics, and presumably not in the BIOS as well, it has either failed or is not connected properly.
