Error Code 39 - CD/DVD will not work

About a month ago, I installed a new graphics card (NVIDIA GeFORCE 6200 OC) in my Dell Dimension 2350.  I found out that the 250W power supply was not enough power to run the new graphics card, so I ordered a new 480W power supply.  After installing the new power supply, neither my CD or my DVD drives are working.  They have a yellow ! mark in the device manager.  In device status it says, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"  I tried deleting the registry entries for the Upperfilter and the Lowerfilter.  Still not working.  I put the old power supply back in.  Still not working.

HELP!

I've already done this.  Just checked again and even after a reboot (several actually), there are still no UpperFilters or LowerFilters.  I've been working on this all night!  It started after I changed out the power supply from a 250W to a 480W.  As soon as I did that, the drive disappeared and I got the Error Code 39 in the Device Manger for both drives.  I have since put the old power supply back in, but the drives are still malfunctioning.  What can I try next?

Questions:  Do the drives have power?  Do they open and close?

One other thing that may be of interest is that under the registry key (4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318), there are several sub-folders, each with a number (0000, 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004, etc.)  Does this represent multiple drivers for the same device?  None of them containe the Upperfilter or lowerfilter.

Yes...both drives have power and they can be opened and closed.

At first glance, the article is not one that I had found yet.  I will go through it and see if it helps.

Thanks for your quick reply!

I tried editing the Registry with the info from the link that you provided.  That did not fix it.  It would not allow me to delete some of the keys or edit some of the values.

HOWEVER...the fix at the following link worked!

I appreciate your help!

rc_jay, thanks for posting the Sony BMG link. I have some questions for you though.

1) Any idea what put the Sony software on your system? (playing a Sony cd, firmware upgrade)

2) How did you notice that the software was on your system?

3) Did you also use the uninstaller for the MediaMax software?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I've had the computer for 5 or 6 years.  I'm sure that I've played a SONY CD at sometime.  I don't remember the last time that I did.

Once the drives quit working I started looking for a solution and ran across the sony fix.  I noticed a sony process in  Task Manager and decided to run the fix and it worked!

I did not use the uninstaller for the MediaMax Software.

Hope this helps!
